On the morning of July 7, 2023, the Eco Forum Global Guiyang, themed "Technology-driven Green Development", was held at the Guiyang Ecological Conference Center. During the forum, Hou Feng, Chairman of China Water Environment, emphasized that the Nanming River stands as the world's pioneering innovation and implementation of a distributed sunkenreclaimed water system on a city scale. The entire project spanned almost a decade, involving the restoration of 185 kilometers of the river, benefiting 5 million residents in Guiyang. Notably, 21 distributed sunkenwater plants were newly constructed and expanded in situ. In contrast to the traditional approach of building factories downstream, this project achieved a remarkable 45% cost savings, totaling 11.6 billion yuan, and conserved over 1,000 mu of land. Over the past 10 months, the water quality has successfully reached the classification of surface water class III, transforming into water suitable for river channels. Hou Feng expressed strong support for tailoring urban sewage discharge standards to the unique needs of each city, each plant, and each policy, based on environmental and resource utilization requirements. He emphasized that this project also serves as a demonstration project for water treatment endorsed by the three national ministries and commissions.
