Disclose the Wastewater Purification of Beijing Bishui Underground WWTP 

On the occasion of the 52nd World Environment Day, the Tongzhou District Ecology and Environment Bureau of Beijing, in collaboration with CWEG, invited more than 10 families to embark on a journey to explore the wastewater purification of the Beijing Bishui Underground WWTP (an education base for ecology and environment). Staff from the Bishui WWTP explained how the equipment works and how DURWecosystem helps domestic sewage become the second water source for the city.

Children have shown curiosity about wastewater purification and learned more about sewage recycling and green and sustainable development. They made a promise to save water and live a low-carbon life. This activity has deepened the public’s understanding of water conservation.

In place of foreign technology, the Beijing Bishui Underground WWTP was upgraded in 2015 using CWEG’s DURWecosystem technology. As the largest sewage treatment plant in the sub-center of Beijing, it was put into operation in 2017, dealing with 84% of the sewage in the built-up area of Tongzhou District, serving nearly 700,000 people. It is also the first non-stop renovation project in China, epitomizing the National Water Pollution Control and Treatment Science and Technology Major Project achievements.

As all facilities are placed underground, the stinky pond has now become a leisure park with clear waters. The water recycled is now a necessity for the city and is used to replenish river channels and serve municipalities, plants, and theme parks. The water quality of the Yudai River has been improved and we will be able to see fish swimming amid clear waters and aquatic plants.

On the one hand, we hope to acquaint everyone with achievements of water pollution prevention and control in Beijing's sub-center over the years, and on the other hand, we will advocate ecological and environmental protection and promote the idea that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. Li Miaomiao said.
