People’s Daily | Erhai Lake’s Ecology Continues to Progress

On August 10, 2022, an article titled “Erhai Lake's ecology continues to progress” was published on People's Daily front page, demonstrating the remarkable achievements made by Dali in ecological restoration and environmental protection. It was reproduced on the official account Dao PPP of the Ministry of Finance. Bearing in mind the instructions of the General Secretary Xi, CWEG and the government worked together to safeguard the Erhai Lake. From January to June this year, Erhai Lake’s water clarity achieved the best level in nearly a decade. According to Focus Report, Group’s Dali Erhai project is an excellent practice of Xi’s Ideology on Ecological Civilization.

Erhai Lake, the pearl of the plateau, with an area of 252 square kilometers, is the second largest plateau freshwater lake in Yunnan. In recent years, Dali has been promoting the protection and management of Erhai Lake. Through mountain restoration,afforestation and river training, Dali has achieved the overall improvement of water environment, water resources, water ecology and water security. From January to June this year, Erhai Lake’s water clarity reached the best level in nearly a decade. With the ecological progress, a 129km ecological corridor has been joined up around Erhai Lake and Dali is named the demonstration area of national tourism. The green mountains make up an immortal painting without pigments dotted. The Erhai Lake plays long-lasting music without strings vibrating, which has attracted a lot of tourists.

Following the instruction of Xi, CWEG adopted the distributed underground reclaimed water ecosystem. Six underground WWTPs were built along the Erhai Lake with 240 km long trunk sewer lines, forming a wastewater treatment system, so as to collect and process sewage in one place.

20 million tons of clean water, formerly used for farmland irrigation, are saved every year. In line with Dali's overall tourism planning, the construction of zero-emission hotels,charging piles and other infrastructure are progressing to realize the 100% recycle of water resources, land resources and green energy. Accordingly, this project is named the demonstration project of national PPP.

In 2020 and 2021, the water quality of Erhai Lake reached case-II for 7 months and case-III for 5 months and was rated as excellent. The water clarity of 2022 is regarded as the best in nearly three years. Ottelia acuminata, regarded as the touchstone of water quality, has been in full bloom after half a century.
