National "13th Five-Year Plan" Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Exhibition was held in Beijing in recent days. This exhibition was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Equipment Development Department of Military Commission, Science and Technology Commission of Military Commission and Beijing Municipal People's government. It focuses on the major scientific and technological achievements made in implementing the innovation-driven development strategy and building an innovative country during the 13th Five-Year Plan Period, and fully demonstrates the important supporting and leading role of scientific and technological innovation in China's economic and social development.

With the theme of "Innovation-driven Development towards a Powerful Country in Science and Technology", the exhibition is divided into 12 exhibition areas, including major special projects and regional innovation. A total of 1,740 items were displayed, with a focus on a number of major landmark achievements in science and technology during the 13th Five-Year Plan Period. 14 major science and technology projects were exhibited in the "13th Five-Year Plan" achievement exhibition. These projects demonstrate the characteristics of "strategic cornerstone, self-reliance, caring about the well-being of people and great practice" of major projects. Some of the major scientific research achievements and innovative technologies of the Major Project on Water Pollution Control and Treatment (hereinafter referred to as the "Water Project") were presented in the exhibition area, highlighting the remarkable achievements of scientific and technological innovation in the field of water environment during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period.

Water project is one of the 16 major projects identified in theOutline of National Medium-and Long-Term Science and Technology Development Plan (2006-2020). Wu Fengchang, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief technical engineer of national major water projects, said, "The implementation of water projects aims to solve the major scientific and technological bottleneck problem of water pollution that restricts China's economic and social development, and provide strong scientific and technological support for pollutant emission reduction, water quality improvement and drinking water safety guarantee in key river basins."

In the exhibition area of water projects, "Demonstration of Ecological Complex with Distributed Sunk Reclaimed Water Ecosystem as the Core", the only research achievement of underground sewage plant in the 13th Five-Year Plan Period, appeared at the venue. It is understood that the system technology is independently developed by China Water Environment Group, and has the core advantages of "integration of plant, network and river, integration of water and land ecosystem, and combination of the characteristics of low carbon emission, energy-saving and quality". It can realize the organic combination of sewage recycling, green energy supply, popular science education, ecological landscape and other functions, greatly improve the land use efficiency, and further transform the traditional sewage plant into a resource center, an energy center, a public service supply center and a digital management center. Engineering application and demonstration have been carried out in 21 provinces and cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guiyang and Dali, which have solved the technical problems of urban water pollution control and water environment treatment, and become a sewage treatment model suitable for China's national conditions.

Water project is an important decision and arrangement made by China to improve the scientific and technological innovation ability in ecological environment and promote the construction of ecological civilization. It is a major scientific and technological project, livelihood project and political task, and an important scientific and technological guarantee for promoting the modernization of water environment governance system and governance capacity. Since the start of 13th Five-Year Plan, through the innovation of concepts, technologies and institutional mechanisms, 305 breakthroughs in key technologies and complete sets of technologies for water pollution treatment, ecological restoration of water bodies and drinking water safety guarantee have been made, more than 2,700 invention patents were granted, more than 300 key demonstration projects that can be replicated and promoted were implemented, and more than 300 national and industry standards and specifications were issued. The water project has made important contributions to the continuous improvement of China's water environment quality and China's winning of the battle against pollution and building of a beautiful China.
