First Batch Nationwide! Only 5 in Beijing! The Group''s Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant Selected as a “National Green Benchmark”

2025-01-09

Recently, the Department of Environment and Resources of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Department of Urban and Rural Development of the Ministry of Housing and Urban - Rural Development released the first batch of 45 representative green and low - carbon benchmark sewage treatment plants nationwide along with their experience and practices. Five reclaimed water plants in Beijing made the list, namely Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant, Gaotangtun Reclaimed Water Plant, Gaobeidian Reclaimed Water Plant, Jiuxianqiao Reclaimed Water Plant, and Qinghe Reclaimed Water Plant (Phase I and II). Among them, China Water Environment Group's Bishui Sunken Reclaimed Water Plant in Beijing's sub - center was the only project from the sub - center to be selected.

The first batch of national “benchmarks” is divided into four categories: 8 for high - efficiency pollution - reduction and energy - saving, 7 for resource and energy recycling, 14 for technology and management innovation, and 16 for comprehensive demonstration. The Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant in Beijing was successfully selected as a benchmark plant for technology and management innovation.

As the first sunken sewage treatment plant in Beijing's sub - center, the Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant introduced the distributed and sunken reclaimed water ecosystem technology of China Water Environment Group in 2015 to upgrade the original Bishui sewage treatment plant. After the upgrade, the plant's design treatment capacity was increased to 180,000 cubic meters per day, serving a population of over 700,000. It replaced foreign technologies with original ones, optimizing and innovating the control technology and pathways for environmental pollutants and carbon emissions.

The project uses water - source heat - pump technology to convert the large amount of low - grade energy stored in reclaimed water into high - quality energy. This provides heating and cooling services for the plant area and surrounding buildings. Compared with traditional natural - gas - based centralized heating and air - conditioning cooling, energy consumption and greenhouse - gas emissions can be reduced by more than 30%, with an annual carbon - emission reduction of 1,266 tons. This achieves green and low - carbon resource - oriented utilization of sewage.

Represented by the Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant in Beijing, these “green benchmarks” in the water sector focus on green and low - carbon water treatment and innovate sustainable development models. Through optimizing sewage treatment processes, recycling resources and energy, and developing carbon sinks above ground, they reduce carbon emissions and improve the ecological environment, continuously injecting strong momentum into the green and low - carbon development of the capital.
