Ten years ago, many large-scale quality residential areas were newly built on the west bank of the Grand Canal, and new owners were very much looking forward to them. However, shortly after checking in, they were troubled by an unbearable odor that came from the Bishui sewage treatment plant one kilometer away, causing them great dissatisfaction.

Solving livelihood issues is urgent, and upgrading and renovating original factories is imperative. The Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant has introduced a distributed sunken reclaimed water ecosystem with independent intellectual property rights of China Water Environment Group. The application of this innovative technology not only enables all sewage treatment facilities to be cleverly placed underground, completely solving environmental problems such as odor and noise, but also greatly improves the efficiency and quality of sewage treatment. Nowadays, the daily sewage treatment capacity of Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant has nearly doubled compared to before, but the land area has been saved by 2/3, and high-quality reclaimed water is 100% utilized.

During the upgrading and renovation process of Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant, China's original technology was adopted to replace foreign technology, and the application of advanced technology significantly reduced the operating energy consumption of the sewage plant. In addition, the water plant also utilizes water source heat pump technology to achieve energy reuse, providing heating services for surrounding areas and further reducing energy consumption. Through the integrated application of these technologies, the Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant has achieved the goal of energy conservation, pollution reduction, and carbon reduction while improving treatment efficiency.

The upgraded Bishui reclaimed water plant, whose high-quality reclaimed water is widely used in many fields, including river ecological water supplement, municipal miscellaneous water, power plant water, Universal Studios water, urban green heart landscape water, etc., has realized 100% reuse of reclaimed water resources, and can save more than 65 million tons of water annually. Through the collaborative coupling of various links, the overall annual water savings have reached over 70 million tons, reducing carbon emissions by tens of thousands of tons.

The above ground part of the Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant has been carefully crafted into a water landscape park that combines artificial wetlands and gardens, with a total area of over 70000 square meters, just one street away from the surrounding residential areas. This organic symbiotic model of urban and natural ecology not only provides residents with a good place to get close to nature and relax, but also greatly enhances the livability of the city.

Here, clear recycled water flows slowly, greatly enriching the biodiversity in the wetland. In order to better popularize knowledge of water environment governance and enhance public awareness of environmental protection, Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant actively undertakes social responsibility and has established multiple science popularization and education exhibition halls to popularize advanced concepts such as water environment governance, "dual carbon" strategy, and recycled water utilization to the public.

The first exhibition hall located in the middle section of underground sewage treatment is the National "Thirteenth Five Year Plan" Water Special Project Science Popularization Museum, covering an area of 300 square meters. With the main theme of "the source of water, the tragedy of water, the purity of water, the charm of water, and the fun of water", it tells the relevant knowledge of water environment governance and enhances the public's awareness of water environment protection; The second exhibition hall, covering an area of 570 square meters, has become a platform for showcasing cultural heritage and a window for popular science education in Tongzhou District, with a focus on showcasing advanced concepts such as the "dual carbon" strategy and the recycling of recycled water. These exhibition halls, together with the Party and Mass Center exhibition halls, constitute the popular science education system of Bishui Reclaimed Water Plant.
