Front-line Splendor | Yanta Qiwang Reclaimed Water Plant of the Group contributes to Xi''an''s commitment to providing clean water resources
2023-06-15In preparation for the China-Central Asia Summit, Xi'an showcased noteworthy achievements in water management, aligning with the eco-value of "lucid waters and lush mountains as invaluable assets." The presentation highlighted the city's commitment to improving the ecological environment, serving as a demonstration to both international delegates and local residents. This showcased the harmonious development of water production and ecological balance in urban public spaces. Recently, Shaanxi Radio and Television Station produced a promotion project with the theme of "Xi'an Ecological Environment Improvement", and conducted a special interview on ecological environment improvement made by Yanta Qiwang Reclaimed Water Plant of the China Water Environment Group.
Gao Yan'an,staff member of Chang'an District Water Affairs Bureau of Xi'an:
Originally, part of the sewage entered the Zaohe River. Later, after we set up sewage removal and pipe, we managed to lead the sewage along the Zaohe River into the pipeline and directly transmitted it to the sewage treatment plant.
Zaohe River, with a total length of 35.85 kilometers, passes through the main urban area of Xi'an, with a dense population. In 2018, Xi'an teamed up with the China Water Environment Group to clean up the Zaohe River for the benefit of citizens. The plan was conducted under the principle of "joint deployment of four reservoirs, transferring clear water into the city, building rivers and parks together, and replacing reservoirs with rivers". Additionally, an underground sewage treatment plant was built using the group's reclaimed water system. This ensured a seamless connection between the afforested factory area and the park, marking a pioneering measure in the holistic treatment of the Zaohe River in Xi'an.
In Yannan Park, Yanta District, Xi'an, 72-year-old Mrs. Wang and members of her community dance team were practicing dancing and exercising. As they moved, the clear flow of water passed by the pavilion, creating a serene and beautiful environment. What many citizens didn't realize was that right beneath their feet, there was a sewage treatment plant ensuring the cleanliness of the surroundings.
Mrs. Wang, a citizen of Xi'an:
I'm very pleased. There's no odor noticeable from above the plant, and it feels just like being on level ground.
The decision to construct the sewage treatment plant underground is a win-win solution. This not only saves valuable land but also guarantees standardized water quality for the Zaohe River and water resource compensation.
Liu Congyang, General Manager of Xi'an Guokai Company of the China Water Environment Group:
Currently, the whole sewage treatment plant mainly treats sewage within 14 square kilometers west of Baomao Expressway, north of West Avenue, and south of the South Third Ring Road. So far, the daily (sewage) treatment capacity of our water plant is about 45,000 tons.
Since the official launch of Yanta Qiwang Sewage Treatment Plant, the water quality of Zaohe River and its surrounding ecological environment have been significantly improved, ensuring the quality of urban water environment and contributing to the gradual and positive enhancement of the river's ecological conditions.

The river acts as a connecting line, with the water resembling beads. Xi'an has prioritized ecological restoration in its comprehensive treatment of the Zaohe River, adding 1682 mu of green areas and 141 mu of water surfaces. Today, the entire Zaohe River coastline has transformed into a green corridor for the leisure and entertainment activities of the citizens.
