The 5th China Urban Water Environment and Water Ecological Development Conference was held | Guiyang Nanming River Becomes an International Case of Green Basin Construction
2023-05-23The 5th China Urban Water Environment and Water Ecological Development Conference will be held in Wuhan from May 20th to 21st, 2023. This conference focuses on the theme of "low-carbon and green watershed construction", gathering a large number of domestic and foreign elites in politics, industry, academia, and research, systematically exploring technological innovation, policy improvement, and management optimization, aiming to provide strong support for the country's major strategy of promoting regional economic and ecological coordinated development.
Shao Xinyu, academician of the CAE Member, vice governor of Hubei Province, Tang Haiying, deputy director of the First Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Qu Jiuhui, president of the Water Environment and Water Ecology Branch of the Chinese Urban Science Research Association, and academician of the CAE Member attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Xia Jun, academician of the CAS Member and professor of Wuhan University, Kang Shaozhong, academician of the CAE Member and professor of China Agricultural University, Liu Wenqing, academician of the CAE Member, academic director of Anhui Institute of Optics and Precision Machinery, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Glen Daiger, academician of the American Academy of Engineering and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, etc. delivered keynote reports for the conference.

Academician Shao Xinyu's speech stated that water resources, water environment, and water ecology are crucial to the overall strategy, long-term development, and people's well-being. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, Hubei Province will take comprehensive watershed management as the basis, promote the synchronous development of the "four modernizations" in the new era, scientifically define the "base map unit" of comprehensive watershed management, establish a negative list of safety control, and establish a positive list of economic and social development according to local conditions, firmly guarding the bottom line of water resources, water environment security, food security, and ecological security.
Academician Qu Jiuhui briefly and vividly reviewed the development process of Wuhan in the field of water environment and water ecology in his speech, using the phrase "excellence due to water, concern due to water, and priority given to water development". He stated that after five years of development, the China Urban Water Environment and Water Ecology Conference has become an important brand in the industry. I believe that through this platform, everyone can fully exchange ideas and collide with sparks of wisdom, especially in the construction of green and low-carbon watersheds, contribute ideas and suggestions, look forward to the future, and jointly promote a better water environment and ecology, making the great rivers of our country beautiful and happy.
Xu Zuxin, an academician of the CAE Member, and a professor of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tongji University, presided over the keynote report. Academicians Xia Jun, Kang Shaozhong, Liu Wenqing, and Glen Daigger made reports on the science of integrated watershed management systems and the research and development of watershed simulators, the ecological environmental effects of agricultural water events in the northwest arid region and the progress and application of environmental optical monitoring technology, and the advanced management of urban water resources.
Ren Hongqiang, academician of the CAE Member and dean of the School of Environment of Nanjing University, presided over the closing ceremony. At the closing ceremony, Wang Qiao, an academician of the CAE Member, the International Academy of Astronautics, and a researcher of the Satellite Application Center of the Ministry of Ecological Environment, delivered a keynote report on the theme of "Remote Sensing Development of Watershed Water Ecology".
At the end of the conference, Academician Qu Jiuhui gave a keynote speech on "Watershed Scanning - Green Beyond the Horizon", looking forward to the future of the watershed from four aspects: zero pollution, carbon neutrality, ecological integrity, and digital watershed. He pointed out that the Nanming River in Guiyang, China has excellent water quality, rich biodiversity, healthy ecosystem, and beautiful landscape, and has become an international case of green watershed construction along with the Seine River in France, the Cheonggye River in South Korea, the Emcher River in Germany, Lake Onondaga in the United States, and the River Thames in the United Kingdom.
As a professional technology platform for water environment and resource utilization, China Water Environment Group has always adhered to technological innovation and created a distributed sinking and regeneration water ecosystem technology system for sewage treatment and resource utilization. The system technology originated from the original Nanming River treatment, and 21 distributed sinking and regeneration water plants have been newly built and expanded along the main and tributaries of the Nanming River. 185 kilometers of river ecological restoration have been achieved, achieving efficient utilization of water resources, land resources, and green energy. After years of governance, the Nanming River has transformed from a black and odorous river into a green river with clear water banks, shallow fish swimming at the bottom, and white egrets flying. It has been rated as a demonstration project for urban mother river governance by three national ministries.
