CWEG has Won the First Prize of Environment Technology Progress Award for Its WWTP Technology

The 2022 Environment Technology Progress Award issued by the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry announced a list of winners. Led by China Water Environment Group, the Research and Engineering Application of Key Technologies of Underground Urban Reclaimed Water Plant Project was granted the first prize. The progress award, set up four years ago, was given to an enterprise in the field of water pollution prevention and control for the first time.

In accordance with the Regulations on National Science and Technology Awards, the Environment Technology Progress Award has been set up since 2018. The first prize is awarded to projects with major innovation in environmental science and technology, high technical difficulty, and world advanced technological level and to those that are applied widely, has achieved great environmental benefits, and has great significance in promoting economic development and social progress.

The winning project is led by CWEG, and co-organized by Beijing University of Technology, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Architecture, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sichuan Science City Tianren Environmental Protection Co., Ltd, Xiyuan Environmental Protection Co., Ltd (Shanghai). The team was the first to work on technological innovation and carry out engineering practice of WWTP in China. CWEG not only undertook the underground plant project, the National Water Pollution Control and Treatment Science and Technology Major Project under 13th Five-Year Plan, but also issued the first technical specifications, promoting the high-quality development of WWTP in China. 

CWEG was the first enterprise in water pollution prevention and control to receive the honor since the award began, indicating the Group's scientific and technological innovation and the transformation of R&D achievements have been at the forefront of the industry. Moreover, the underground WWTP, as an original technology, should be promoted widely for it plays an important role in tackling water environment management issues and promoting the technological innovation of environmental protection industry.

Aiming at land consolidation, environmental protection, precise regulation and resource utilization, the project has realized innovation in water, gas, control, and utilization. Regarded as the second water source of city, the WWTP has been built underground in a distributed way to solve the Not in My Backyard problem. Promoting the utilization of water resources, land resources and green energy, CWEG will keep pursuing innovations in sewage treatment.

The project has been authorized 167 patents, including 35 papers and the world's first monograph on underground reclaimed water plants. Complied into National Advanced Pollution Prevention and Control Technology Catalogue, it was also one of the upgrading technologies for national infrastructure selected by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Moreover, it's presented at the Achievement Exhibition for Scientific and Technological Innovation under the National 13th Five-Year Plan for its world-class technology.

So far, the project has been promoted in 22 provinces across the country, dealing with more than 3 million tons of sewage per day. There are 15 national demonstration projects, covering various application scenarios of water environment treatment, and promoting the large-scale application of underground WWTP in China.

In recent years, the Group has witnessed tremendous progress in technological innovation. This award is the best commendation. The Group will continue to strengthen scientific and technological innovation, accelerate the industrialization of R&D achievements, and make more contributions to the country's high-quality development and ecological progress.
