Sichuan's “Three Main Pollution Prevention and Control Campaigns” Major Projects & Chengdu Science City Water Environment Management Project Kickoff Meeting Successfully Held
2016-12-02 On December 1, 2016, Sichuan Province’s “Three Main Pollution Prevention and Control Campaigns” Major Projects & Chengdu Science City Water Environment Management Project Kickoff Meeting was held at the Tianfu District Underground WWTP. Sichuan Provincial Governor Yin Li, who is also the Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, Li Yuedong, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Environmental Protection, and leaders from relevant departments of Chengdu, including the Chengdu Management Committee of Tianfu New Area, attended the kickoff meeting. CWEG Sichuan Division Deputy General Manager Zhu Cheng also participated in the event.

At the kickoff meeting, Governor Yin Li emphasized, “First, we should fully realize the importance and urgency of pollution prevention and control, and strengthen our sense of responsibility and mission; second, departments at all levels in Sichuan should attach great importance to these Major Projects and promote their construction and effective implementation in a solid and steady way; third, the responsibilities of different departments in pollution prevention and control must be clearly clarified and fully fulfilled; fourth, the work mechanisms should be continuously innovated and optimized to mobilize various types of investors in the battle of environmental pollution prevention and control by adopting diverse participation models.”
During his visit to the exhibition hall of the Tianfu District’s First Underground WWTP constructed under the PPP model, Yin Li gave the WWTP credit for its underground structure, and said that the Tianfu District’s First Underground WWTP & Chengdu Science City Water Environment Management Project should be built into a national PPP demonstration project of premium quality.

As the main venue of the Sichuan Province’s “Three Main Pollution Prevention and Control Campaigns” Major Projects Kickoff Meeting, the Tianfu District’s First Underground WWTP is currently the largest underground WWTP in Sichuan, with effluent basically achieving the Surface Water Quality Standard Class IV, exceeding the national reclaimed water guidelines and standards. All the effluent is recycled and reused, which can greatly improve the water environment of Chengdu Science City. After the Chengdu Science City Water Environment Management Project is completed, an ecological green corridor stretching for more than 10 km will be formed, helping relieve the ecological environmental pressure on new area construction, improve the water quality of the Xinglong Lake, and contribute to a beautiful Chengdu Science City with “lucid waters, lush mountains and green banks”.
