CWEG’s Qiangshan Underground WWTP Selected as the “2017 Key Practical Technology and Demonstration Project of Environmental Protection”
2017-12-07 In December 2017, the “Guiyang Qingshan WWTP & Underground wastewater Treatment and Recycling Project”, initiated by CWEG’s R&D Department and jointly submitted by CWEG Guizhou Division’s Qingshan Underground WWTP, was successfully selected as the “2017 Key Practical Technology and Demonstration Project of Environmental Protection”. A project awarded with this honor must be first subject to the recommendation of the Guizhou Association of Environmental Protection Industry, Specialized Committee and Industry Association. Then the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry will arrange for an expert group to review and evaluate the project before an on-site inspection is conducted.
The application for this honor was valid from May of this year, and the on-site inspection began on November 14 after repeated project reviews were done. Yan Zhongkai, Director of the Technical Department of the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry, Ji Yuchuan, expert at the Sichuan Academy of Environmental Sciences, and an expert group including Wang Zhaowei, Chairman of the Guizhou Association of Environmental Protection Industry, performed an on-site inspection on the Qingshan Underground WWTP, where they learned about CWEG’s basic information, the project’s major technical features, design and construction, operation status, effluent discharge compliance, and economic & environmental benefits. The project’s treatment capacity, operation process and the quality of water at the inlet and the outlet were also investigated.
With the advantages of “land intensiveness, ecological friendliness and effective reuse of reclaimed water”, the Qingshan Underground WWTP was highly recognized by the expert group for its delivery of economic, environmental and social benefits. The expert group said the project should be widely promoted.
The list of projects winning this honor has been publicly announced by the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry recently. These projects will be recommended by the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other government departments, and will enjoy preferential access to policy dividend and propaganda support. This helps further promote the application and demonstration effect of project technology. Meanwhile, as the most influential technology facilitator in the environmental protection industry, the honor of“Key Practical Technology and Demonstration Project of Environmental Protection” also provides an important point of reference for users to choose environmental protection technology.
The “Guiyang Qingshan Underground Wastewater Treatment and Recycling Plant Project” initiated by CWEG mainly adopts the process of aerated grit chamber + optimized AOO technology + rectangular continuous-flow-type sedimentation tank with peripheral inflow and outflow + high efficiency sedimentation tank + biofilter + ultraviolet disinfection. Vertically, the project is comprised of the above-ground ecological flowing water landscape park layer, earthing layer, maintenance layer (basement 1) and tank layer (basement 2); and according to the landscape design, the ecological flowing water landscape park is further horizontally divided into different functional areas which reconcile with the surrounding environment. The underground WWTP adopts the box-type structure layout in which multiple main structures are compactly combined and built together and share the same walls, featuring clear function division and high space utilization. Through incorporating sewer pipe network, ventilation and deodorization, fire protection, transportation, and operation and maintenance in a connected and coordinated way, the eco-friendly, land-intensive and resource-saving project effectively reduces space in underground box-type structure and consequently the investment. The underground box-type structure is horizontally and functionally divided into the pre-treatment area, secondary treatment area, advanced treatment area, sludge treatment area, public buildings area, and vehicle traffic and logistics area.
In addition, the project also builds the Guiyang Water Environment Science Museum themed “Ensuring Water Safety, Protecting Water Environment, Displaying Water Science and Technology, Inheriting Water Culture, Developing Water Economy” for publicizing the water environment protection of Guiyang’s Mother River Nanming River. The Guiyang Water Environment Science Museum, together with the underground WWTP and the ecological flowing water landscape park, will become a precious “water business symbol” of Guiyang as an ecological civilization demonstration city.
