To Serve the South-North Water Transfer Project: CWEG's Ankang Central Area Water Environment Management PPP Project Now Goes into Operation, in a Bid to Build the Best Wastewater Treatment Demonstration Project in Northwestern China
2019-12-13Prof. Zhang Tao, who is also the Vice President of the Chinese Academyof Sciences and a member of the Leading Party Members’ Group, Zhao Junmin,Deputy Secretary of the CPC Ankang Municipal Committee and Mayor of AnkangCity, Jiao Xiaoping, Director at China PPP Center of the Ministry of Finance,Zhong Guodong, member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice Chairman ofSDIC, and CWEG Chairman Hou Feng jointly announced that the project now goesinto operation.
On Oct. 6, 2019, at the historic momentof the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic ofChina, the opening ceremony for the Jiangnan Underground WWTP as part of CWEG""sAnkang Central Area Water Environment Management PPP Project was successfully held,marking that the project now comes into commercial use. Prof. Zhang Tao, who isalso the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a member of the LeadingParty Members’ Group, Zhao Junmin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Ankang MunicipalCommittee and Mayor of Ankang City, Jiao Xiaoping, Director at China PPP Centerof the Ministry of Finance, Zhong Guodong, member of the Leading Party Members’Group and Vice Chairman of State Development & Investment Corp., Ltd.(SDIC), and Qiu Xiangdong, Deputy Director of the Department of Strategic Developmentof SDIC, as well as leaders of relevant SDIC departments, attended theceremony. CWEG Chairman Hou Feng and VicePresident Fang Yong, who is also the Board Secretary, werealso present and introduced the project.

The Jiangnan Underground WWTP treats 80,000 tonsof wastewater per day and produces high-quality effluent achieving Surface Water Standard Class IV forurban landscaping and other uses. Above the WWTP will be an ecological park forrecreational purpose and a science museum. In responseto problems found by the Central Environmental Inspection Team, the projectcomes up with a satisfactory solution at a given time and secures a win-winsituation between ecological protection and economic growth. While underpinningAnkang’s political mission of “keeping Beijing-Tianjin’s water supply clean”, theWWTP also plays a significant role in improving the ecological and livingenvironment of Ankang and ensuring the water quality safety of the MRP forSouth-to-North Water Transfer.
