Protecting the Mother River: CWEG science-based Nanming River investigation
2020-05-19 As the ecosystem of the Nanming River keeps improving, cultural elements related to the river have attracted growing interest. On May 17, 2020, CWEG Guizhou Zhuxin Water Co., Ltd. and Guiyang Public Environmental Education Center jointly launched the Nanming River-Qingshui River Ecological and Cultural Investigation, to obtain a science-based view of the sources of the Nanming River.
More than 30 people, including Pu Zhenyuan, former Deputy Director of the Guiyang People’s Congress, Huang Chengde, Director of Guiyang Public Environmental Education Center, Wu Pan, Dean of College of Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering of Guizhou University, Gao Lin, General Manager of CWEG Guizhou Subsidiary, Yuan Ju, General Manager of CWEG Guizhou Zhuxin Water Co., Ltd., as well as NGO representatives, experts and professionals in Guizhou, and social media attended the event.
According to historical records, such as Annals of Guiyang, General Annals of Guizhou, and Investigation of Rivers in Guizhou, the Nanming River rises in Bainitian Village, Machang Town, Pingba District, and Cigu Reservoir, Bazhong Village, Qingzhen City.
The investigation will last for five months. According to Huang Chengde, head of Guiyang Public Environmental Education Center, the investigation team will visit the sources of the Nanming River, and study the flow rates, basin area, length of rivers, biodiversity, cultural relics, geological profiles and geomorphology of the Nanming-Qingshui basin, for the purpose of updating relevant data. Gao Lin, General Manager of CWEG Guizhou Subsidiary, said, “In the process of protecting the Nanming River, we should also assume the responsibility of protecting and promoting the culture arising from our mother river.”
Investigation findings will create a scientific basis for the green development of central and southern Guizhou, and provide credible data for the scientific governance, protection and development of the Nanming River. These findings will also be exhibited and published to expand their influence.
