Lian Weiliang visits CWEG Ankang Jiangnan Underground WWTP
2020-10-23 On October 18, Lian Weiliang, head of an inspection team of the State Council and Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, visited CWEG Ankang downtown comprehensive water environment governance project —Jiangnan underground WWTP, to investigate into and guide water environment governance in Ankang. Guo Qing, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress and Secretary of CPC Ankang Municipal Committee, Zhang Xiaoguang, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Director of Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and Zhao Junmin, Deputy Secretary of CPC Ankang Municipal Committee and Mayor of Ankang City joined the investigation.
The team affirmed the WWTP’s “high-standard design, construction and operations” and underground design, and recognized its success in investment control and water reclamation. Also, they highly praised the achievements of Ankang government in protecting the Hanjiang River.
On November 25, 2019, the People’s Daily published a front-page report on the CWEG Ankang downtown comprehensive water environment governance PPP project. The project plays a key role in ensuring the implementation of Ankang’s political mission — to improve the water quality of the Han River which flows into Beijing and Tianjin, and the livability and water safety of downtown Ankang.

Jiangnan Underground WWTP has a capacity of 80,000 t/d, with effluent meeting Surface Water Grade IV standard against key indicators. High-quality reclaimed water is used to irrigate urban landscape. A park and a science education museum are built above the plant, as a part of its green efforts. After coming into service on October 6, 2019, the project has been playing a key role in ensuring the implementation of Ankang’s political mission — to improve the water quality of the Han River which flows into Beijing and Tianjin, and the livability and water safety of downtown Ankang.
Investigation team checked samples of high-quality reclaimed water
CWEG Jiangnan Underground WWTP is an investigation target recommended by Ankang City. The investigation team visited the Intelligent Monitoring Center, Online Water Quality Control Center, and Underground Waste Water Treatment System. At the WWTP, they inquired about project investment, land efficiency, effluent quality, and water reclamation, and listened to reports on daily capacity, influent and effluent quality and daily operations.
