The First Comprehensive Management of Water Environment in Urban Scale Watershed in the World - Nanming River in Guiyang

Project Overview

An important ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, with the construction, renovation, and expansion of 24 recycled water plants, ecological restoration of 185 kilometers of river channels, crossing densely populated areas, and serving an area of 6600 square kilometers.

Project Advantages

1. The model of "Mother River" governance in three national departments and cities has been selected as a beautiful river and lake by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and a happy river and lake by the Ministry of Water Resources.

2. It has been recognized by the People's Daily as the world's first innovative practice of distributed sunken reclaimed water ecosystem at the urban scale.

3. The system saves 45% of investment, creates thousands of acres of land, and provides 500 million cubic meters of annual ecological water replenishment. By 2024, it aims to achieve a surface water level of Class III within 7 months, with sediment remaining uncleaned for 11 years. The coverage rate of submerged plants has increased from 15% to 85%, and the Guizhou endemic national second-class protected fish species, the spotted golden barbel, has returned to the Nanming River.
