Based in Mianyang Science and Technology City, SichuanProvince, the National Research Centre for MunicipalWastewater Treatment and Reuse (hereinafter referred to as “the Centre”) is a business-oriented legal entity jointly funded byChina Academy of Engineering Physics, Southwest Municipal Engineering Design &Research Institute of China, Sichuan University, CWEG, etc. and approved by theScience and Technology Department of Sichuan Province in 2004. The Centrefocuses on the research and industrialization of municipal wastewater treatmentand reuse technologies, and has built up its own strengths in developing newenvironmental technologies and equipment, and manufacturing integratedequipment and systems.
Founded in 1958, China Academy ofEngineering Physics is a scientific research base that is specifically designated in the state plan while integrating theory research, experimentation, design and production of advanced national defense science and technology. Itis now staffed with 11 academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences and 12 academiciansfrom Chinese Academy of Engineering. Due to its special business needs, ChinaAcademy of Engineering Physics has been committed to the research anddevelopment of various wastewater, waste residue and exhaust treatmenttechnologies and supporting facilities since its establishment. It has built upa well-experienced team of environmental protection technology and has made alarge portfolio of IP-protected scientific and technological achievements. Theenvironmental protection industry has become part of China Academy ofEngineering Physics’ three pillar industries that focuseson “military-into-civilian” application.

Relying onits own advantages and by pooling wisdom at home and abroad, the Centre takes “promoting sustainableutilization of water resources and sustainable development of China in terms ofboth social economical dimensions” as its mission. It has been dedicated to developingnew technologies, processes and equipment in the field of water pollutioncontrol and integrated utilization of water resources, in a bid to rapidlyindustrialize its scientific and technological achievements.
The Centrehas now grown into an “incubator” that integrates basic research, technology &equipment development and production, engineering design and construction, operations management, and professionals training, with a R&D team led by expertacademicians and focused on industry-university-research cooperation in place. Theteam plays an important role in tackling technical problems, transformingachievements, engineering construction, consulting and training, etc., earninghigh recognition during domestic and foreign technical exchange meetings.
